Ben’s Fish was founded by Ben Woodcraft in 1995. At that time, Ben was an inshore fisherman, based on the Essex coast, with twenty years experience. Identifying a gap in the market for top quality seasonal produce, he began by selling his own catch to London’s top restaurants, the business grew with Ben sourcing more and more for his London customers. In 2006, Ben bought Rewsalls Old Barn, a listed traditional Essex Barn. It has been lovingly restored and now houses the business. It can be found on the easterly side of Mersea Island and has fantastic views of the estuary.
Today we deliver top of the range, just-caught fish straight from our coastal waters direct to some of the top restaurants in London from a converted barn on Mersea Island, the UK’s most easterly inhabited island. Mersea Island has a thriving fishing industry and is famous for its oysters which are cultivated in the estuary. Ben’s Fish is ideally placed to liaise directly with local fishermen, farmers and growers from around the East Coast.
